We first caught wind of Space Above when they remixed an early Kids of 88 track, and after locking into their soundcloud we eagerly waited 12-months till incredible original productions leaked through the cracks. Months on the 3-piece have released their latest offering ‘Shades’ with Auckland tastemakers A Label Called Success.

Shades was born out of a month of very consolidated techno listening between Sam and I. More so than usual.
It started after hearing Sam rolling a 4 to the floor loop through the floorboards of his studio. Going downstairs and being hit by noises that felt like they should have been created 15 years ago was so immediately inspiring, and we just went deep on it from there.”  –Aaron Short
Joining Aaron, is the mastermind behind BOYBOY -Sam McCarthy who sounded the collective after meeting in L.A., where they began exploring a deeper, more journey based electronic sound based on their mutual passion for music that extends the mind and exceeds the 5 minute mark. Fellow Kiwi Maddie North (So Below) shared a taste for the dark and atmospheric, which saw her step in as cowriter and female vocalist, and Space Above was born.
With a full length album on the horizon, multiple singles and remixes circulating the world of the underground, and now a soon to be released music video, Space Above are settling nicely in to the new home they’ve created and dubbed ‘space-tech’.
