ALTA gave us the nod only a year ago with ‘Hold Your Fire,’ and now 12-months on the two piece from Melbourne deliver their latest. ‘Plans’ layers obscure sounds, drawing influences from a wide scope of genres and styles – forming a tapestry of sonic landscapes.
“We focus heavily on rhythms and use a range of different percussive sounds to build up tracks…” says Dowson. “For this track we tried to have distinctive differences between song sections to coincide with the lyrics which had sections broken into different themes (we try to do this a lot in songs).”
‘Plans’ is a journey, drawing you in with a percussive groove, over a track that is bare and minimal, allowing space for lyrics that cradle that feeling of fragility, heavy and dark, in a sonic bed that pulls you in from the first note. Once the bass hits, the track draws in strength, with a defiant feeling of making that decision of equal parts heartbreak and strength. The crescendo soars as the track reaches its peak and the listener is transported to a place of power and reassurance.
